Conflict 1 is a bit closer to Shirow's new standard for making comics, it seems. Lots of detail and word balloons. Lots of explanations. If you liked the later issues of Appleseed, you'd probably like Conflict 1.

I agree. Especially with the Puma twins.

It's also set a few years after the first Dominion (explains why the cloud's gone, why everybody and their dog has a Bonaparte, and all of the various promotions and such.) Very enjoyable piece of work, and also a good lesson of how to interweave a dozen subplots without cutting from one to the other. As implausible as it sounds, Shirow manages actual character development for something like twenty people in a single volume. <g>

Now if he just made some more... ;_;
