Hiro/Heroes
The phonetic similarity can't be an unplanned coincidence.
I expected the story to revolve around Hiro last season. He was in it throughout the season, but he wasn't really that central to the finale. Peter would probably be called the lead hero.
Any thoughts here?

The pun is rather obvious, and it was used a few times in the dialog and was one of the episode titles.
In one of the earlier graphic novels, it was revealed that Hiro was named after Hiroshima, as a reminder to his family of the bombing (Hiro's grandfather was a surviving victim, and apparently suffered horribly later in life).
From the start, it was obvious that the show was about a group of people. However, I'd consider the lead roles to be Peter, Claire, HRG, Niki/Jessica, and Hiro. The other characters more or less supported these character.

I think there is:
Peter Nathan Sylar Clair The blonde, african american, boy family, all with abilities. The cop
To me, Nathan and Sylar were just as critical to the plot as Hiro and Clair.

Let's not forget the fact that, according to the story Hiro's father has such a strong belief in Hiro's destiny that it certainly wouldn't be a far cry for him to have chosen this name intentionally, given his involvement with so many other predominantly english-speaking members of the, for lack of a better term, 'secret society.'
