as I watch the live action TV drama 'P.A.' original work by Michiyo Akaishi, I was reminded of how Akaishi come out book #9 of outside stories even though the whole title ended in book #8. So is Ushio to Tora, Orange Road, etc. Kenshin just have another ouside story on SJ last week (SJ 3&4 2000?) those are the titles that would not end even after 'the end' are printed in bold face for the so call last chapter. anybody know more examples and reasons? Akaishi mentioned mostly because of the TV shows that she continued the works, Matsumoto kept working on KOR because he couldn't come out another hits. no idea why Ushio have those extra stories.

on a side note, I was reminded why Idols are, well, idols, talk about bad acting, and I thought the live action Glass no Kamen was bad, the only point in seeing this live action PA is probably to check out the lead in cute sailor suit, those cute idols should stay in commericals so they don't have to open their mouths, I mean, I was watching one of the last episode of iron cook, and that have better acting, a cooking show that used fake glasses and blood? you betcha.

(for people who must know, ch.8 in SF bay area, Sat, 01/09/99)

You mean the things like the KOR Novels? In that sense, there are a lot more that do the same thing: almost the whole Jump J novel line. City Hunter, VGA, Cat's Eye, Gunnm... Fushigi Yuugi (3 novels at least) (even in the series, the last four volumes, was way overdue). Dragonball, Toriyama continuing with storylines when he wanted to end it long before. Ginga Tetsudou 999 now continued!

In the same department can be classified sequel series. 'Dear Boys' => 'Dear Boys II'. 'Shounen Giants' => 'Ganbare Shounen Giants'. 'Vampire vampire' => 'Tasukete Vampire'. Gou Nagai did the same thing with Mazinger. Zetsuai => Bronze.

In the same department can also be classified all the GAIDEN (specials). 'Orfeus no Mado' => 'Orfeus no mado gaiden'......

We can continue that way to infinity.

Milking it out to the last drop.

actually, no, Matsumoto did draw at least two more KOR special chapters, I knew, because I have them (from ultra jump and YJ). all color done on Mac. one is the watermain broke so I go peek at Madoka in the public bath, (that one is also reprinted/add on as the last chapter for the bunko edition, in b&w) the other is Madoka/Hikaru special. like all the examples I listed above, I mainly talked about 'outside stories' which appear after the title REALLY ended. not other medium like novel or anime, not part 2, 3, etc. if that is the case then the lists would be very long as you said.

that is probably the main reasons for most continuous, but outside stories sometime are about other characters who are not leads, or story arcs that does not fit the main story lines, like the latest Kenshin is about how the young kid gets his reverse edge sword. Ushio's extra is about the story in ancient China period, etc. in that vain PA and KOR are different because they just continue in the main theme like nothing had happened.

Fushigi Yuugi continued for at least 3 books after the 'ending.' As it happens I STILL haven't been able to bring myself to finish the series. Guess which 3 books I am having problems with?

Glass no Kamen was okay in a campy sort of way. Everything in it was done WAY over the top which is almost hysterical at times. PA was actually rather good. I missed the last episode because I screwed up the programming on my VCR. I have been meaning to go rent it but haven't had the time. There are problems with PA of course, (e.g. it was AWFULLY convenient of her to have studied the VERY thing she needs to use for her next role that same day.)

I thought the story was rather good at it made me go out and by the first manga. I haven't gotten around to the other 3, though.

Really?? I found those 3 books probably the best part. Tied off a lot of the loose ends, IMHO.

In the case of Fushigi Yuugi Watase Yuu *intended* to end it at volume 13, which also corresponds with the end of the TV series. However, fan demand forced her to write the other 5 volumes.
