Here is the post I mentioned. I posted it before the Micah/Monica connection.

Since my post got lost in one of the threads, I thought I'd re-post it here. I think that one person's power doesn't activate until they come in contact with another person with (active) powers. For example: Peter's empathy/power absorbing powers didn't seem to start until he came in contact with Charles (the dying/dead African American older man), who I think had the power of interactive dreaming. Nathan's power to fly didn't seem to activate until he came in contact with Linderman (Linderman's men were after him on the highway when his car wrecked in '6 months ago'

. They both had contact with their mother but it seems she may have an inactive/non-automatic power. Matt, the mind reading cop, didn't start to hear thoughts until he came in contact with Eden, the girl with the 'persuasive' voice. Claire's power may have been activated when she was a baby from being around her biological mother, who could control fire. Or Claire's power may have been activated from being near the Haitian while he was 'mind wiping' her adoptive mother. Kensei's healing power may not have activated until he came in contact with Hiro. For those who don't seem to have a clear connection to another with a power, it could be that just being near someone with a power, passing them in the street, could activate a dormant one in another. Or they may have had the abilities all along but they only manifested when needed.
I would like to straighten out a few points that were picked apart by other posters. I did not think that Nathan being chased by Linderman's men was what 'set' his powers off. I assumed that Nathan had personally been near Linderman before that point and later Linderman's men were chasing him. I worded it wrong. Also, I didn't think that Angela and 'Dallas' didn't count (as triggers) as someone suggested. I just didn't know what her power was and thought that it had to be an 'active' power in order to trigger the other person's power. There have been discussions about whether powers are automaticly active or have to be conciously used. I posted my theory above after the episode with Kensei healing himself. He was confused about it so it had evidently never happened before he met Hiro. Then I thought about the other connections such as Eden/Matt, then tried to fit other connections in too. But because I didn't have everything completely right, parts of my post were picked apart then lost in old posts. But I'm kind of used to it, often my posts are dismissed but then suddenly many people are making the exact same points as I did (the Sylar ticking sound effect as he moved toward Candice/Michelle after bashing her head for example). Oh well, that's how it goes, I guess. Just thought I'd point it out for once. lol
