question about the regeneration ability
|
|
|
Sorry if this has been discussed before but, any thoughts on the regeneration ability as it pertains to things like: cosmetic surgery, having your appendix out, a girl losing her virginity (does it grow back each time), pierced ears, etc ?

Don't know about the others, but it strikes me that she should never need to have her appendix out. Or tonsils either for that matter.

Dragonlady! Claire has two piercings in her right ear, one in the ear lobe and one towards the top, and one in her left. The narrative hasn't had to reveal whether or not she is or continues to be a virgin, but this goes to whether healing is or is not voluntary. The presence of ear piercings suggests it admits of some voluntary control, like breathing. Although it remains anecdotal, it's widely believed healing does depend on your wanting to heal. Similar to remaining a

Or, perhaps her healing ability doesn't extend to injuries prior to the time her power manifested itself (i.e., roughly 10 months ago).

Or perhaps she never takes her earrings out and if she did she would heal.

It's possible that her body considers the piercings to be 'healed' in the sense that the original ruptured skin has closed over, that is, therere is no longer any damaged tissue. Since the ear is mostly cartilege, and the lobe itself is just skin, it would not make much difference to her overall health if her earlobe just happened to heal with an opening in the middle of it.
There is also probably some thing useful to be learned from the first episode of season 1 when her ribs fail to heal properly for whatever time period it was sticking out of her side. Her bones also seem to heal only once she has repositioned them in their proper place. Her body seems to be able to 'sense' when trying to heal would cause more damage than not. If that is the case, it's also likely that her body would react differently to an injury or serious wound than it would to something benign like an ear

I suppose we can say that the ear piercings predate her powers manifesting, so they didn't heal.
Or it's just that Hayden Panettiere has pierced ears and the makeup artiest wasn't able to cover that up.

So if, for example, someone like Candace (or whatever she wants to call herself) developed Claire's ability instead of her own, she can never get plastic surgery to correct what nature gave her.... or Niki can never get implants (should she have Claire's ability) 'cause they'd pop on out (so to speak).... bummer.

Actually, ear piercings tend to close up in normal people if you stop wearing the earrings long enough. As long as she is wearing the earrings, there is no reason for the hole to close up.
