I've recently become interested in the Ranma series. I know that there are 38 volumes (and it's finished and everything in Japan) and that Viz is collecting the series in graphic novel format. How many Viz graphic novel are there out now, and which volumes of the Japanese series do they cover? I've got the first Viz graphic novel, which seems to cover volumes 1&2. Does this mean Viz will release 14 GNs, each containing two volumes of the Japanese series?

Regards,

Vol 13 of the Viz manga covers part 7, #3, 2nd half through #9, 1st half; so no. (How would 2*14=38 anyways?) -Galen

Viz is collecting the series in a different manner than the Japanese version. Viz seems to be concentrating on getting entire stories complete in one volume, where the Japanese version usually puts eleven chpaters in every volume no matter how that breaks up a story in progress. In that case, it's almost impossible to figure out what number of volumes Viz will use to complete Ranma. But the stories have been presented in chronological order so far.

(38 volumes x around 200 pages per volume )/14 GN = around 540 pages per GN. That would be a little bit too much, don't you think? Even in widebans in Japan, the pagecount is limited to around 400 pages.

I've always found that the stories fit rather nicely in the Japanese version (the Herb story fits exactly one volume for example).
