Sure, but how many people watch a channel for one show?

In the local papers there was an article about Comcast moving all the HBO channels to their digital lineup, so customers who wanted to keep HBO had to switch to digital cable (or satellite, I suppose).

I don't remember the particulars, but the article suggested that many people were preparing to make the switch, annoying though it was, just so they could see 'The Sopranos'.

Paying for a channel for one show happens, but I don't know how you'd measure the number of people devoted enough to do so.

When 'Firefly' was cancelled, some Internet petitions started so people could register that they'd subscribe to any premium cable channel that picked it up. Dunno how many people registered for those, and since no cable channel did pick it up there's no way of knowing how many people actually would have followed through.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the new direct-to-DVD 'Babylon 5' movie.
