Thoughts: (10/29/2007) - SPOILERS!
|
|
|
1. A third name for Monica's powers: Adoptive Muscle Memory. Guess that's the official story this time.
2. HRG's is pretty amazing with languages...We know now he speaks at least three: English, Japanese, and Russian.
3. I'm not sure I like the new method for the beginning of the show: there's too much bouncing between the various characters that we'll follow, and not really a lot of information provided. I think if they're going to have such a huge cast, they need to make every minute count.
4. HRG was stupid enough not to leave the room when he's on a personal call?
5. At this moment, I really don't like West. At first, I didn't really have an opinion on him. He was a bit creepy, but really didn't seem like a bad guy. Now, however, I think he's a really bad influence, and certainly seems like a sociopath who takes the pranks just a little too far.
BTW, those effects were pretty bad. The effects last season were done much better. Did NBC cut the funding or something?
6. Bob is working Mohinder's ethics and reeling him in even deeper.
7. Well, Sylar is mildly interesting in that scene with Alejandro.
8. It seems that the morally-gray HRG is still present.
9. I just thought about it...Monica could technically learn to be a surgeon.
10. I guess Mohinder knows about Jessica.
11. So, instead of the Exploding Man, we're going to have Typhoid Mary. I hope they don't make Peter the culprit again.
12. It took forever, but at least they finally got to the major quest for the season.
No monologues this time.

jewahe! Insofar as surgery depends upon learning a sequence of physical actions, which, sometimes, it does. Mostly, though, surgery depends upon an understanding of the underlying situation and context, regardless of what particular surgery is being performed. That Monica won't pick up. If she watched Chopin play his etudes, she'd be able to reproduce them like a computer-backed player piano: She'd mimic what she saw and, she'd be able to put in an occasional nuance, some bit of creativity that spontaneously occurred to her. For piano, good, for surgery, bad, probably.

I tried to make a similar point in an unrelated thread.
Well it appears he never intended to let the guy live anyway, so can't be used against him.
I still don't understand Claire's attraction to him after the way he acted toward her initially. I'm not saying she couldn't fall for him, but given that everything she'd been through in season one I have a hard time believing he would gain her trust and affection that qiuckly and easily.
Or is it a 'dumb teen' thing I'm too old now to get?
I agree. The 'let's scare the cheerleader' scene reminded me of movie-making effects from the mid-1980s.
Dramatic license, I know, but I find it hard to believe with as tiny a car they are driving that Maya didn't overhear his little speech to Alejandro standing less than six feet away from the two of them. Sylar wasn't even making an effort to keep his voice down.
Actually I thought their scene together was the best in the whole ep. She just all a bit too creepy being all smiles and talking about being helped and cured and now his partner. The ambiguity of whether she was there to support or threaten him was intense!
Sigh.
At least they finally got around to revealing THAT! (Even though we got a much better explanation just watching the 'Next Monday...' preview.) I was really beginning to question if there was any overriding story arc for the season.
Combined with the article in the other thread documenting Heroes drop from #10 to #30 in the Neilsen ratings since season two started, I can certainly understand why viewers are leaving.
I'll stick with it, but if this kind of pace/plotting continues I'll be catching it on vid replays at the Heroes web site instead.
oh, and...
13. No Matt, Nathan, Nightmare Man, or Electricity Girl this ep.
14. Who is this Adam guy? Signs point to a new hero. Company considers him ultra-dangerous. And apparently Peter hung out with him in the four months between nuclear day and now.

Adoptive or Adaptive?
Of course not. He wanted his mentor-guy to hear his conversation with Claire so the threat of taking the memories of his own daughter would be more effective.
Just the fact that he's making out with Claire was enough for me to hate him.
It's interesting to see him without any powers but still so evil and ambitious.
Gray is definitely his color. Or to write those really tiny novelty bibles....
But does he know about DL?
This time around every mutant will be a potential carrier of the legacy virus. How many episodes did it take them to get to 'save the cheerleader, save the world,' six? And the explosion of New York didn't come until even later than that IIRC.

It doesn't matter what the Ukrainian heard, Mr. Bennet was going to kill him anyway.
While Monica may learn the rote hand motions of surgery she won't have the medical training or experience to put it to proper use.
Did he learn this last season or did he read Niki's file after he was recruited to the company?
I would guess that it will be the virus the company modified after it mutates to being contagious in the general population.

When he hung up, he was right in front of the picture he used as his final 'offer' I think it was thought out.
Peter & Caitlin in NY was BAD.
Or maybe the company isn't as bad as we think. They're definitly trying to introduce doubt as to who's good and who's bad. We know that Bob is scared of Adam, we know that Adam was waiting for Peter, we know that Bob was marked, maybe the company isn't as bad?.
That was a bit darker than gray.
2nd half of the season at least.

So far, he's a standard cardboard stereotype of the angst-ridden teenagers. If he couldn't fly, he'd be a goth, and have razor scars on his wrists.
Only to perform exactly the same operation as the one she watched. Which really isn't all that common for a surgeon to do.

It's the standard 'angst-ridden teen, afraid of being different from everyone else, who finds another freak so they *must* fall in love'
