I'm not convinced that there is enough evidence to finalize a conclusion. All we know is that this novel shows how she looked in high school. A lot can happen afterward, and I imagine that as part of the company's training regimen, she would have lost weight and become more physically attractive.
However, the scars and anger from the treatment she received in high school in are still present, and still a primary motivating factor.
However, the likelihood that she is camouflaging her real appearance with an illusion has just increased. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
