I'm looking for a site that I can recommend to someone where they can buy a good variety of Japanese tankobons, etc., online. Does anyone have any suggestions for sites which have a lot of untranslated manga for sale? Any ideas are welcome!

try http://www.sasugabook.com. I've had no problem with them at all. Good variety too.
