At the comic store today, tossed in with my manga order, was a 'Viz In' brochure of things to come. The front of it had an ad for the Shojo Pokemon comic that Viz is releasing, 'Magical Pokemon Journey.'
The story & art is by Yumi Tsukirini. The character style of the female main character looks familiar. It seems to have a little Nurse Angel, a little Marmalade Boy, etc.
I checked the Anime Turnpike page and couldn't find any fan pages or official company pages for Yumi Tsukirini. I was wondering if anyone knows some of her other works, provided she isn't a newcomer (which I doubt, as I don't believe a newcomer would be trusted with such a project, that the publishing company will *EXPECT* to rake in sales).

There's no reason why a newcomer wouldn't do such projects. I think it's even more the opposite. Giving such an ungrateful job to a newcomer IS the thing to do. Oldtimers will certainly refuse to take up something that is limiting their creative possibilities. Moreover, the company will rake in sales almost regardless of the quality of the project. After all, we are talking about a hype here. No problems with royalties or high fees either with a newcomer.
Just for the fun of it, I've done a little search on Tsukirino. I can't find any reference to her before 1998. That seems to confirm that she is a newcomer. (Two volumes of Pokemon were published in 1998).

I have to admit that, nonetheless, the Pokemon manga is far more amusing than it has any right to be. I look forward to seeing what Ono comes out with on his own after he's done with Pokemon...

Now that I've read the Animerica interview of Toshiro Ono, the writer of the Pokemon comic, I see your point. (Animerica vol 8 nr 1)
Ono talks about the restrictions placed on him, and how the editors check his content and often tell him to make changes. I think any established manga writer who values his/her creativity would find this intolerable.
